A FRENCH COUGH
Another astonishing array of rough edged retro jewels for your delectation this evening, hopefully there'll be one or two items here to tick off your "must hear" list. If not, then your list was incomplete, it's that simple.
Up first, here's tonight's only non-NWOBHM band, although you would be hard pressed to guess that if you were going by their sound alone.
RAPID TEARS were a Heavy Metal quintet from Ontario Canada.
Formed in 1977, the band would make their recording debut in 1980 with the "Operation Airlift" 45 on Guardian Records.
They released a second single in 1982, the anthemic "Headbang" on Chameleon Records. They followed that later in the year with this, their debut (and only) full length album, "Honestly". Eleven fine pieces of vintage HM from a mystifyingly overlooked band who should have been sitting pretty @ the top of the Metal tree by the middle of the decade, alas & alack, it was not to be.

Next tonight, we are proud to complete the Alkatrazz discography with this, their 2nd & final album "Radio 5", from 1982 on the RCA label. Like their debut, this is another fine album chock full of commercial but tough NWOBHM with radio appeal. For more info on the Maidstone based band, see the entry next to their other album "Young Blood", in last weeks post.

Another follow up post now, this time courtesy of nightsblood, this is the only other recording from Stoke band Reincarnate, whose lone single, 1982's "Take It Or Leave It" we posted last time. This is the four song, cassette only "1983 Demo", following which the band split.
Bassist/Vocalist Paul "Frazza" Farrington went on to join HARRIER as keyboard player, recording the "Out On The Street" EP in 1984. Farrington would later join the reformed DEMON in 2002 and appear on the "Better The Devil You Know" album of 2005.

Another piece of demo-lition for you next, this is the four song 1980 demo by Stevenage trio Ground Attack. This one predates their previously featured "Red Lion" 7", but remained uncirculated for more than 20 years after the tapes were misplaced shortly after their recording. Luckily, they turned up under mysterious circumstances, and were circulated by band main man, singer/guitarist Tom "Katz" Atkinson. In 2003 Tom reformed the band with new members Corrie Shiells on Bass and Matt Alan on the Drums. They released a full length album entitled "Sectioned" in 2004, which contained some other original songs which were lost in 1980.

Turbo were a NWOBHM quintet who formed in 1979, releasing this, their three song "Stallion" EP on Carso Records in 1981. They followed this up with their only other release, the previously posted "Charged For Glory" 7" on SRT Records in 1982. This is typically great low budget NWoBHM with a nice raw sound, with the right breaks they could have gone so much further.

Jody St. passed into the realms of NWOBHM legend, in spite of the fact that nobody seemed to be entirely sure just how good they were, due to the scarcity of their records.
An 8 song self financed album came first, issued in 1980, and was followed in '81 by this, the funky "Fight Back" 7". NWOBHM fans were, by the end of the 90's, foaming at the mouth at the prospect of any copies of their records coming up for sale, and the theoretical value swiftly rocketed to astronomical levels, in fact only a couple of copies have come into the market in recent years. This band were brimming with talent and inventive ideas, it's a crying shame that they were never better known.

Die Laughing were a short lived NWOBHM trio from Sussex who recorded this one rare single in 1980. The "You Got The Power" 45 was released on Ocean Records in an eye catching comic style sleeve, and came with a free badge & poster. Very '70s influenced hard rock with interesting arrangements were the bands hallmarks, but it's value nowadays probably has more to do with it's rarity. Still, a nice "borderline NWOBHM" listen all said.

Where do you get this magnificent old school music?
Often the music is very rare and really hard to find.
Thank you Nightsblood for REINCARNATE demo! It's really amazing to hear the top class rarity like this!! Great stuff!!
Cheers!!
can'tthank you enough for these rarities..awesome stuff!
cheers!
Rob
Glad you like the Reincarnate single!
Nice list this week! Been curious to hear Jody St for quite awhile, Rapid Tears sounds interesting, and it'll be nice to hear the rest of Turbo's catalog- one of the many strong acts on the New Electric Warriors compilation
Damn bro... Thank you so much for all this amazing music. From a musicians standpoint, and someone who thinks alot of the "music" out there today is shit, this really is a treasure. You've turned me on to so many great bands that I never knew existed and I'm forever grateful! You truly ARE the man!
A post above and beyond the call of duty. I salute you!!! Nice one ( yet again ) my friend. Take care, Blofeld
I now worship you in place of god sir. I... erm... made a request in a previous comments section because the internet confuses me and I hit the wrong button.
Here it is:
I have a silly little request though... In October of 07 you put "Battle Axe - We're on the Attack" up on rapidshare. It appears though, I can no longer download it. Could you please re-upload it, or shall I be forced to cry into my beer?
Anyways, if you have the chance I would be very greatful. I've been on the hunt for this album for quite some time and nearly had a heart attack when I found your wonderful little corner of th internet.
Thanks for reading and keep it up, you deserve highest honours.
Any chance of loading the Reincarnate Demo in mp3 format as I can't open the one it's in? Cheers, Blofeld
Kit, Nightsblood.. Thanks again, fantastic post.

Now you can...
Blofield- What format is the Reincarnate demo in? I thought it was in mp3 format, but maybe it's in m4a? Let me know and I'll see what I can do; shouldn't be a problem to convert it for you. If it's m4a, that's an itunes format (if you use itunes).
To the gentleman crying into his beer, I can upload the Battleaxe for you; keep an eye on the Comments here and I'll try to get to it in a few days.
Matt- thanks. 'Kit and Timetraveller deserve all the praise though; it's their blog. I'm just a fan who provides a few titles to fill requests as thanks for all the great stuff I've been able to hear via 'Kit and Timetraveller's efforts on this great blog.
Yes, it's in M4A format and I don't use iTunes. If yopu could convert it that would be great. Thanks a lot, Blofeld
OK, here's the Reincarnate demo re-loaded. I converted the song files to mp3s, so they should work for everyone this time. If they still read as m4a's, then my converter isn't working and maybe someone else can lend a hand.

Also, here's a re-load of the Battle Axe 'We're On the Attack' LP by request. Hope you enjoy it! IMO it's an up-and-down album but has a couple of great numbers such as 'Hats Off to Margaret'.
